Creating a Positive Working Environment with Microsoft Praise

Updated: Oct 8

At No More Bad Mondays, we believe that recognition is essential for creating a positive workplace culture. Studies reveal that employees who receive recognition are over 40% more engaged than those who don't. They feel more confident, put in extra effort, and are less likely to leave their jobs. While Microsoft Teams offers a Praise feature to acknowledge team members, it often lacks the capability to foster a broader culture of appreciation. That's where we come in!

Let’s elevate your recognition practices with a dedicated space for celebrating achievements.

To create a thriving culture of recognition, it's vital to have a designated space where employees can give and receive praise. So let's start by creating a "Kudos Corner".

Step 1: Create the Team for Kudos Corner

  1. Open Microsoft Teams and create a new team named Kudos Corner (or whatever you like!).

  2. Add a fun and engaging team image, perhaps a fun version of your company logo.

  3. Ensure the team settings allow everyone in your organisation to be automatically added.

Step 2: Craft and Pin the Welcoming Post

Create a welcoming post to be pinned at the top of the channel. This post should introduce Kudos Corner as the place for celebrating and recognising outstanding contributions. Encourage team members to share positive feedback, and consider offering a special reward each month to the staff member with the most kudos.

Example Welcoming Post:

Welcome to Kudos Corner! This is the space to celebrate and recognise our team members' outstanding contributions. Share praise and positive feedback about your colleagues! Each month, the team member with the most kudos will receive a special reward. Let’s spread positivity together!Remember to use the 'Praise' action to give kudos.

Step 3: Set Up Microsoft Lists to Track Praise

Create a Microsoft List to track all the praise given and received in Kudos Corner. Include columns for:

  • Title (text)

  • Badge (hyperlink)

  • Giver (person)

  • Receiver (person)

  • Praise Type (text)

  • Date Received (date)

  • Praise Reason (text)

You can hide the Title column for a cleaner view and use the following formula in the formatting of the Badge column for proper display:

{ "$schema": "https://developer.microsoft.com/json-schemas/sp/v2/column-formatting.schema.json", "elmType": "img", "style": { "width": "100px" }, "attributes": { "src": "@currentField" } }

Step 4: Automate the Process with Power Automate

To streamline the process, create a Power Automate flow that links your Praise actions with the Microsoft List. This automation allows key staff members to monitor praise, generate reports, and promote positive communications. If you need help with customisation, we're here for you—just get in touch!

Step 5: Encourage and Sustain Use of Kudos Corner

Encourage ongoing use of Kudos Corner by leveraging the data from your Microsoft List for weekly or monthly updates to staff. Consider creating engaging reports in Power BI to visualise the praise shared. This will not only enhance motivation but also reinforce a culture of excellence.

By implementing “Kudos Corner,” you'll foster a more positive and supportive workplace. Recognition drives performance, reduces turnover, and creates an environment where everyone can thrive.
